The dead, Nazrul Islam, 32, of Middle Badda, was stabbed in his right thigh reportedly by the woman carjacker named Shanti, 25. Nazrul died half an hour later from bleeding.

Locals at Mothertek said four armed robbers posing for passengers hired the auto-rickshaw (Dhaka Metro Tha-14-0798) from the Hotel Sonargaon crossroads at around 8:00pm.

They made Nazrul to stop the car on Commissioner's Lane at North Mothertek and forced him at gunpoint to seat in the back seat, while one of them took the wheel.

A motorcycle rider, seeing a passenger taking over the steering, suspected the carjacking and gave a chase. He shouted to alert the locals and forced the auto-rickshaw to pull up by blocking its way with his bike. As locals rushed to the spot, the carjackers fired two blank shots and Shanti stabbed the driver.

Locals held Shanti and another robber named Anowar Hossain, 30, and beat them black and blue until police rescued them and sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) at 10:00pm. The two other robbers managed to escape.
