Indian cricket team flies in today

The Indian cricket team will fly to Dhaka today ending a nervy wait of millions of fans across the border for the last couple of days due an unvaried death threat from a little known Islamic militant group.

A 15-member Indian team led by Sourav Ganguly is set to aboard an Airbus of Bangladesh Biman in Kolkata at around 11.45 am and are likely reach Dhaka an hour later to embark on a 20-day trip that includes two Tests and three one-day internationals.

But the first Test, originally scheduled to start on Thursday, will now commence on Friday at Dhaka's Bangabandhu National Stadium.

The first full series of the Indian team against Bangladesh was back on track after the Indian foreign ministry yesterday cleared Sourav's men to tour after assessing security arrangements in Dhaka.

"We have cleared the team's visit after receiving the report of our team," foreign office spokesman Navtej Sarna told AFP on Tuesday.

The tour was given the go-ahead after the five-member inspection team led by India's Inspector General of Police for VIP Security Yashovardhan Azad sent a satisfactory report yesterday following inspection of security arrangements at Hotel Sonargaon and the Bangabandhu National Stadium.

Although the Indian inspection team that arrived on Monday cleared Dhaka, they are yet to make their assessment of Chittagong where the second Test and the first one-dayer will be played. The inspection team will fly to the port city today.
