The new date is October 24. Earlier the date was fixed on October 19 when 14 out of 17 accused persons were present in court. They are now on bail.

The case will be tried by the Additional District and Sessions Judge, Jessore.

The name of principal accused Asaduzzaman Litu was dropped from the chargesheet as he was killed in a crossfire with Detective Branch (DB) of police in West Baniakhamar here recently.

Two accused persons Anwarul Islam and Mushfequr Rahman Hirok are still absconding.

Jessore Bureau chief of Dainik Janakantha Shamsur Rahman was gunned down at his office in Jessore town at 8.20 pm on July 16, 2000. His wife Selina Akhter Lucky filed FIR as complainant with Kotwali Thana on July 17. She did not name any accused but pointed out five reasons of her husband's murder.

The case was handed over to CID on July 18 the same year. CID submitted chargesheet to court on May 22, 2001.
