The Rajshahi University (RU) unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on Wednesday rejected the verdict of historic Jail Killing Case by terming it 'a farce and a blueprint' of the Alliance Government.A meeting was organised on the central library premises to protest the verdict, price-hike of essentials and arrest of Chhatra League activists throughout the country. In his address Chhatra League President Ibrahim Hossain Moon said that the verdict did not reflect the expectation of countrymen. Acting Joint Secretary of Chhatra League Ziaul Haque alleged that since assumption of power the present government was trying to save the killers of four national leaders and liberation war heroes. BCL leader Ponin expressed his apprehension that the government might release the killers by influencing the judiciary. The meeting was addressed, among others, by Chhatra League central committee members Gazi Abdullah, Rashidul Islam, Golam Kawser and Zahid Hossain. Earlier, the Awami League student wing brought out a protest procession on the campus. AL youth wing Jubo League also took out a procession and held a meeting at Shaheb Bazaar rejecting the court verdict. They also protested abnormal price spiral of essentials throughout the country. Rajshahi city unit of Awami League staged a demonstration on Shaheb Bazaar protesting the judgment. A procession and a meeting followed the demonstration. Party general secretary AHM Khairuzzamn Liton, son of assassinated national leader AHM Quamruzzman addressed the meeting which was presided over by its president Mahbub Zaman Bhulu. Speakers criticised the government for acquitting almost all the vital accused persons from the case who played major roles in the jail killing.
