KCC Mayor's move to cancel declaration of Purbanchal slated

Mayor Sheikh Tayebur Rahman and pro-BNP ward commissioners in Khulna City Corporation (KCC) have demanded of the government to cancel the declaration of Dainik Purbanchal published from the city.Some officials and employees of the corporation burnt 150 copies of the local daily at Picture Palace cinema hall intersection on Sunday for publishing 'fabricated stories' on imposition of new holding tax and drainage system. When contacted, the mayor expressed his sharp reaction against Dainik Purbanchal for publishing the reports. Leaders of all political parties including district and city BNP and socio-cultural organisations, press clubs of all districts in Khulna division, Khulna Union of Journalists and Metropolitan Union of Journalists condemned the mayor's attitude. Terming Purbanchal as the mouthpiece of the people of southwestern region, leaders of AL, BNP, Jamaat and Jatiya Party slated the mayor.
