Tk 40 lakh garment fabric seized by Rab


Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), Chittagong seized garment fabric worth Tk 40 lakh, arrested two criminals and recovered arms and ammunition in three separate drives here on Wednesday and Thursday.

Acting on a tip-off, a Rab team raided a godown at Mailermatha near Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) and recovered a good quantity of garment fabrics on Wednesday.

The recovered fabrics were pilfered from a garments factory inside CEPZ and stocked in the godown for sale. This is being practised by a well-organised syndicate for a long time.

However, two pilferers Swapan and Ratan who smuggled out the fabrics from the garment factory managed to flee.

The seized goods were handed over to Bandar Thana and a case was also lodged.

Another Rab team arrested Abdul Kader and recovered a locally-made LG, 39 rounds of bullets and cartridges including 22 M-16 bullets from his possession in Halilshahar area.

Arrested Kader, son of Md Khalilur Rahman of Chapachhari in Banshkhali upazila was handed over to police after filing of a case with Halishahar Thana.

In a similar drive on Wednesday, Rab team arrested Zakir Hossain Khondoker while he was threatening a physician for extortion amounting to Tk 2 lakh from a hotel in Kotwali Thana.

Zakir, son of late Motaleb Khondoker of Lundi village in Rajoir, Madaripur, along with his gang used to contact rich people for illegal toll, according to Rab sources.

The criminal was handed over to police and a case was filed.
