Probe Reveals
Pabna Mental Hospital robbery pre-planned

Robbery at Pabna Mental Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre in December last year was a preplanned incident, an investigation by the health ministry revealed.

A three-member committee headed by Dr Motiur Rahman formed soon after the alleged robbery submitted its report to the ministry in July this year.

The report said, "Robbery of medicines worth Tk 22 lakh and Tk 3 lakh on the night of December 25 was a preplanned incident, intended to cover up routine pilferage of expensive medicines from the hospital store by the then resident medical officer Dr Abdullah Al Rumi and storekeeper Jillur Rahman."

The report also said that the alleged staff members of the hospital were engaged in stealing medicines and supplied counterfeit medicines for use. The committee recommended departmental action against eight staff members including the resident medical officer and storekeeper of the hospital.

Although the committee submitted the investigation report in July, it was made available for public early this month.

After the alleged theft incident at the hospital, a team of the criminal investigation department (CID) was also probing the incident.
