Teacher gangraped at Bagerhat


a teacher of an adult education centre run by Bagerhat Hindu Welfare Trust and daughter of a businessman, was gangraped by a group of miscreants at the residence of her father at Nagerbazar under Bagerhat Sadar thana on Friday.

Fariduddin, officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bagerhat Sadar thana, said the rapists were led by Kakon Molla, a listed criminal belonging to Bagerhat unit of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

The OC said he has already recorded the statement of the victim.

According to police, the miscreants stormed into the house at 5.30am and took her in a room where she was gangraped at gunpoint.

Police said her father was not in the house during the incident. Her mother was confined in another room.

Victim's father has lodged a first information report (FIR) with the police yesterday without accusing anyone.

None has been arrested so far in this connection.

She was shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) from Bagerhat Sadar Hospital on Saturday in a critical condition.

The victim is undergoing treatment at KMCH under police security.

Her condition is yet to improve, said the attending doctors.

The incident has created sharp reaction among the members of the minority community in Bagerhat.

Pradip Basu, president of Bagerhat unit of Hindu Kalyan Trust, has demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment to the culprits.
