Six more new nat'l records

The second day of the 20th National Swimming Championships was marked by six more new national records at the Army Swimming Complex yesterday.Bangladesh Navy continued with their dominance securing five gold medals out of ten at stake on the day while BJMC and Bangladesh Ansar bagged two each and BKSP took the other. Navy's star natant Rubel Rana, the SAF games gold medalist, set another new national record in the 50m backstroke after he had created a new record in the 200m individual medley on the first day. He took 00:28.89sec, bettering the previous mark by .05sec, to win the gold and later contributed in his team's victory in the 4x200m freestyle relay. Munmun Ahmed, Kazi Monirul Islam and Jewel Ahmed were his partners in the team who won the gold clocking 8:33.51sec. abura Khatun made the day's second new national record to give BJMC a gold medal in the 50m backstroke. Sabura set the new mark with a timing of 00:36.52sec to surpass the previous best of 00:36.91sec. In the 100m breaststroke, Mafuza Akhter of BKSP set another new record to win the gold when she finished at 01:21.31sec to break the previous mark 01:24.38 sec. In the 50m freestyle (men's), Navy's Monirul won the gold breaking the previous record of 00:24.94sec. He completed with a timing of 00:24.85sec. In the 50m freestyle (women's), Dolly Akhter of BJMC bagged the gold with a new national record as she achieved 00:31.14sec to erase the previous best of 00:31.69sec. Laboni Akhter Jui of Bangladesh Ansar broke the last record of the day when she won the 100m butterfly clocking 1:14.66sec. The previous best was 1:18.95sec. In the 100m butterfly (men's), Navy's other reputed swimmer Jewel Ahmed clinched the gold with a timing of 00:58.00sec. Ansars secured the day's last gold when Jui, Laboni, Lavli Khatun and Mamtaj Shirin won the women's 4x200m freestyle relay with a timing of 10:51.26sec.
