Rain to continue 2 more days

The current spell of rain with gusty wind across the country will continue at least two more days as the land depression that turned into a well-marked low is now centred in Andhra Pradesh of India, met office sources said yesterday. "The low is moving slowly and it will persist there for two more days. We are experiencing heavy rains because the clouds from the depression centre are moving towards Bangladesh," said Arzumand Habib, deputy director of the met office. The depression over the west-central Bay crossed the north coast of Andhra near Vishakhapatnam and moved in a north-northeasterly direction. The met office forecast moderate to heavy rainfall with storm may occur across the country in next 24 hours. Two to three feet high tide than normal may occur in the coastal areas under the influence of the well-marked low. Dhaka experienced a daylong drizzling while heavy rainfall occurred in Barisal, Patuakhali, Chuadanga, Comilla, Hatia, Feni and Teknaf regions yesterday. The low created a steep pressure gradient over the North Bay, the met office said. Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and Mongla have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number three as squally weather is likely to affect the ports. All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast till further notice.
