Hindu family evicted by 'BNP men' in Satkhira

A house of a Hindu family on 15 decimals of land at Parandah village in Sadar upazila was occupied by some ruling BNP men after forcibly evicting the family members, according to the victim, Ananda Kumar Dey.

But none was arrested, lamented Ananda while talking to this correspondent on Tuesday at Satkhira Reporters' Club.

He told that he had been living on his paternal land for long. But his neighbour Mujibar Rahman, a local 'BNP leader' was trying to grab the land by evicting him. Mujibar also bought a portion of land from his sister. As the 'BNP leader' threatened Ananda to desert the place or face the 'dire consequence,' he filed a general diary with Sadar thana.

On Friday, some people led by Mujibar Rahman attacked and beat Ananda's family members including his wife Rupa Rani Dey. They forcibly evicted them by damaging their house completely and occupied the land. Now Ananda and his family members are living with their relatives at a nearby village.

On contact, police told this correspondent police were trying to arrest the accused, Mujibar Rahman, Mousar Dalal, Rabiul, Hamjar, Mizan and Chitta Ranjan.

Satkhira district Awami League leaders also condemned the incident.
