174 RU teachers protest 'move to distort history'


One hundred and seventy four teachers of Rajshahi University (RU) on Monday protested the government move to distort the history of the Liberation War of Bangladesh.

'The countrymen were united and fought for liberation of the nation after the proclamation of independence by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman' the teachers said in a statement.

They also condemned the death threats to teachers , political leaders, journalists and intellectuals by an extremist outfit.

They demanded adequate security for teachers, journalists, political leaders and intellectuals.

Signatories to the statement are Prof Entajul Haq, former vice chancellor Prof Saidur Rahman Khan , Rajshahi University Teachers' Association president Prof Khalequzzman, joint secretary Prof Sadekul Arefin Matin, Prof Anando Kumar, Prof Hasibul Alam Prodhan, Prof Moloy Kumar, Prof Anser Uddin and Prof Tarek Noor.

Rajshahi city, Rajshahi University of Engineering Technology (RUET) and Rajshahi Medical College units of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in separate statements also protested the official bid to destroy the history of Liberation War of Bangladesh.
