Diarrhoea: One dies, 25 attacked in Bandarban

Diarrhoea has claimed one person in Ramri Mro area here, according to official sources. Bandarban civil surgeon has confirmed the death. Twenty-five others have been attacked by the water-borne disease. All but 19 affected families have taken shelter at nearby villages and forest, according to local people. Locals have complained of acute scarcity of drinking water. People are now drinking polluted water of ponds and canals. Local Union Parishad member Chi Thui Mro told this correspondent two diarrhoea patients have been hospitalised. " We trying to bring back the families who fled from the village. But it might not be possible as the indigenous people have a taboo regarding any kind of disease," Mro added. However, the civil surgeon told two medical teams have been working in the diarrhoea-affected area since Monday afternoon.
