Bangladesh will play their first practice match in Sri Lanka today against a combined eleven at Police Park ground in Colombo. The Tigers left Dhaka on June 30, two weeks ahead of the Asia Cup kicks off for preparation, but the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was still uncertain about the opponents in the three practice matches. Board officials were not available for comment as most of them were still in London attending ICC meetings. When contacted, chief selector Faruque Ahmed said that he was yet to talk to the team since its departure. "It is always good to play warm-up matches before a tournament and I can assure you that Bang-ladesh will face competitive sides. Last year when I visited Sri Lanka as manager of the Under-23 team, I saw a lot of good cricketers in the island," said the former Bangladesh captain. "We have learned that a combined team will play us but we don't know about their status," informed BCB official Nizamuddin Chowdhury. All-rounder Manjarul Islam Rana, right-arm pacer Tapash Baishya and out-of-form Alok Kapali are expected to be rested. Habibul Bashar's men will play their second practice match on July 9 and the last on July 12. Bangladesh are pitted against reigning champions Pakistan and lowly Hong Kong in Group A in the six-team regional competition that starts on July 16. India, Sri Lanka and ICC associate members United Arab Emirates complete Group B.
