Shrine Blast
UK police check findings

The Scotland Yard officials yesterday examined their findings into the shrine blast in Sylhet after they had returned to the capital the previous day.

The three-member team that first arrived in Dhaka on May 23 scrutinised the findings at the British High Commission but did not disclose anything, sources said.

The Scotland Yard officials went to Sylhet on May 24 to probe the blast that killed three and wounded Bangladesh-born British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Anwar Choudhury, among 69 others, at Hazrat Shahjalal Shrine on May 21.

They also checked the security arrangements of Sylhet on the day of the high commissioner's visit to the shrine.

The UK police officials, meanwhile, called on to high-ups of the home ministry, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Shahudul Haque and Additional IGP of Special Branch Mohammad Abdul Qaiyum.

Asked by the home ministry officials, the London police officials will stay here a few more days to help local investigators hunt down the perpetrators of the bomb attack, sources said.

Our Sylhet correspondent adds: The reopening of the regional office of the British high commission here is still pending. A reliable source said a decision to this end may be taken this week.
