Twister kills 2, injures 100 in Nilphamari


Two people were killed and about 100 others injured as a twister ripped through Nilphamari district early yesterday.

The tornado with heavy rain ravaged through Domar pourasava area and Domar Sadar and Boragari unions under Domar upazila, Jaldhaka pourasava, Mirganj, Shimulbari, Dharmapal, Golma, Kathali, Balagram villages under Jaldhaka upazila and some other villages under Dimla upazila at around 3:00am, sources said.

Mousumi, 12, daughter of Ohidul of Teen Bottoli village under Domar upazila, and Horimon, 70, of Dharmapal Khachimata village of Jaldhaka upazila died during the 15 minutes stormy weather. The injured were admitted to different hospitals, but no relief materials reached the affected people, sources added.

The mighty wind damaged 500 thatched huts and 10 educational institutions during its course. Telecommunications and power supplies in the affected areas remained snapped.
