The beats of Chaitra Shankranti
Padatik Nattya Sangsad bids Bangla year 1410 goodbye

Bidding farewell to the year gone by is a part of the traditions and cultures of many races in the world. The thousand-year heritage of Bangali culture also observes its last day of the year with traditional festivities called Chaitra Shankranti.

Padatik Nattya Sangsad observed the last day of the Bangla Year 1410 with their programme Shankranti Utshob 1410 at Rabindra Sharobar Unmukta Mancha, Dhanmondi on April 13.

Started with the colourful kite flying competition, accompanied by the beats of Dhak-Dhol-Kanshor, the enthusiastic crowds from different sections of the society and many young participants got a glimpse of the true essence of Bangali culture.

After the kite-flying show, Syed Badruddin Hossain, the Chairman of Padatik, was greeted on his 82nd birth anniversary.

A musical soiree presenting Rabindra, Nazrul, patriotic and folk songs, especially the Baul tunes, accompanied with Ektara and Dotara not just enthralled the crowd, it also brought back the essential feeling of one's roots. Biswajit Ray Chowdhury, Fahim Hossain Chowdhury, Debabrata Dey, Ruma Akhter, Habib Dewan and others performed in the musical show.

Several dance items with the participation of colourfully dressed children as well as the dancers of the group Nrittyanandan made the evening memorable. The artistes of Padatik also performed musical drama Shojon Badiyar Ghat of poet Jasimuddin. The piece was staged on the Unmukta Mancha for the first time.

The programme ended with the Shong Jatra based on the Hindu mythology. Performed by Narinda Wrishi Polli Shong Club, the play without dailogue amused the audience, which also included some cultural personalities from West Bengal. The item was presented at a cultural show after a long time.
