Led by Alhaj Uddin, Mamunur Rashid Mukta and Nazmul Huq Shahanshah, a group of 12 JCD activists swooped on a BCL procession before Social Science Faculty at around noon and attacked BCL activists Rabu, Lipi and Shukrana, a press release said.

The BCL, student wings of main opposition Awami League, brought out the procession as BBC Bangla service announced Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the greatest Bangali of the century in an opinion poll Wednesday, it added.

BCL activists submitted a memorandum to Vice-chancellor Prof Khandaker Mustahidur Rahman and demanded punishment to the culprits involved in the attack.

"We will sit with the rival student fronts tomorrow (Saturday) to discuss the matter," said newly appointed Proctor Ali Akand Mamun.
