Govt can't be toppled through 'conspiracy'
PM tells Iswarganj rally

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia yesterday urged people to resist the 'conspirators' now out to stall development and progress and said her government cannot be overthrown through 'conspiracy'.

There are two streams of politics in the country, one is politics of development and production and the other is politics of chaos, anarchy, violence, hartal, arson and vandalism, she told a big public meeting at Iswarganj Eidgah playground.

The prime minister expressed the confidence that people would cling to development- and production-oriented politics pursued by her party and government.

Criticising the activities of her political opponents, Khaleda, also the BNP chairperson, said they are cooking up issues by killing their own men and plotting against the government.

"Remain alert about the party," she told the rally, indicating main opposition Awami League (AL), asserting that the wave flow of development will continue and the 'conspirators' will be isolated from people.

The prime minister came down heavily on the two Awami League regimes, said this party did nothing for the nation except for bringing sorrows and pains, famines and violence.

She said the post-independence AL regime was marked by plunder, corruption and famine while its 1996-2001 rule was plagued by violence and economic woes.

"They have left people paupers by siphoning off crores of taka abroad. So, people don't believe Awami League and [that's why] the party time and again suffered defeats in general elections."
