AL forms 22km no-trust shield in Dhaka tomorrow

The main opposition Awami League (AL) will form a 22-kilometre no-confidence human shield in Dhaka tomorrow demanding resignation of the ruling coalition for what it said was absolute failure of the government to deliver.

The programme with the slogan 'No More With This Government' will spell out a token 'no-confidence' in the BNP-Jamaat-led alliance rule, the AL said, adding the coalition rule was characterised by price spiral of essentials and free fall of law and order.

The AL Central Working Committee on March 24 unveiled the hour-long programme from 4:01pm as part of its demonstration against the government that also included countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartals on April 7 and 8.

Under the human shield programme, AL activists would line up the roads from Pallabi to Bahadur Shah Park, including Mirpur 10 and 1 roundabouts, Darussalam, Shamoli, Asad Gate, Dhanmondi 27, Russell Square, Science Laboratory Crossing, Elephant Road, Bata Intersection, Katabon, Eastern Plaza, Bangla Motor, Moghbazar Intersection, Mouchak Market, Kakrail Inter-section, Bijoynagar Road, Paltan Intersection, Noor Hossain Square, Nayabazar and English Road.

AL sources said opposition activists would man the human shield while party presidium and central working committee members, lawmakers and key leaders of different front organisations would gather on 23 key points.
