India and Sri Lanka bounced back in style to secure their first points in Group A of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup Super League yesterday.India outplayed West Indies by 96 runs at the Bangabandhu National Stadium while at the Futullah Stadium in Narayanganj Sri Lanka's batsmen finally came to the party recording a 29-run win against the South Africans. The victories for the Asian teams kept the group wide open as now all four teams have won and lost once each playing two games. In the day's Plate action, Scotland produced the shock of the minnows when the Highlanders overhauled Nepal's modest total of 200 in grandstand fashion and with three wickets in hand at Chitta-gong's MA Aziz Stadium. Australia, on the other hand, confirmed their semifinal place with an easy nine-wicket win over Papua New Guinea at the Divisional Stadium. INDIA V WEST INDIES West Indies never found chasing 254 easy under lights at the big bowl with wickets falling regularly against the accurate bowling of Sharma (4-28) and Dhiman with three for 26. The only batsman that stood tall was Fudadin with a 120-ball 51. Earlier, India won the toss and reached a commanding total of 253-9 with the middle-order making up for the loss two early wickets. Suresh Raina rode his luck before top scoring with 66. Suresh got the benefit of doubt in a run-out situation he was on 18 although television replay clearly showed him short of his ground. Karthik added a vital 46. The victory brought Robin Singh's charges back into the race after they suffered a sensational three-run defeat against South Africa. SRI LANKA V SOUTH AFRICA The islanders, who lost their first match to West Indies, owed their win to opener Upul Tharanga who scored his team's maiden century of the meet with 117. He received solid support at the other end from Nadeera Nawala with 56 and Gihan de Silva (42). The trio helped the Lankans to post an impressive 277-5 in 50 overs. Jaco Booysen kept the Proteas in the chase as the number four smashed 120 off 114 balls with 13 boundaries before becoming the eighth wicket to fall with South Africa still needing another 55 runs in the last five overs. But Sri Lanka's opening bowlers Maharoof and Chanaka returned to knock over the rest in 48.3 overs. Marharoof finished with 4-49 and his partner took two for 59. SCOTLAND V NEPAL The Scots who recorded the lowest score of the entire tournament -- 22 against Australia, conjured a dramatic turnaround in their second outing in Group 1 of the Plate Championship. Riding on a match-winning performance from Iqbal, the Scots eventually chased Nepal's 200-9 with the help of a last-ball four. Earlier Iqbal who claimed two wickets kept the scoreboard ticking with 67 valuable runs. Nepal, coached by former Sri Lankan Test star Roy Dias, needed a half-century by S Vesawkar to get post a decent total against their weak opponents. AUSTRALIA V PNG Papua New Guinea put into bat managed just 83 and the Australians ambled to the meagre total inside 19 overs losing just one wicket. Australia had earlier failed to qualify for the Cup stage after being upset by Zimbabwe.
