Khulna Stadium impresses Mani

International Cricket Council president Ehsan Mani expressed his satisfaction with the facilities at the Khulna Divisional Stadium while watching Pakistan and Ireland battle in the youth World Cup yesterday.

"It is really wonderful and I'm very delighted to see such a fine venue hosting an international match," he said of the venue recently renamed the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Matiur Rahman Stadium.

Mani, who arrived here on Sunday night to see the Group D fixture, was accompanied by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Ali Asghar and the Board's cricket committee chairman Mahbub Anam.

The ICC chief also visited the local hotels where all the Under-19 players were staying. Mani took time out to go on a trip to the world famous Sundarbans.

Before leaving Mani exchanged views with local journalists. But he declined to say if the stadium would be given Test status. But Mani assured all that he would pursue the case personally.

"I find every reason to be more than satisfied with the arrangements for youth World Cup matches in Khulna," he said.

And the BCB president was optimistic that people in Khulna would get to watch Test matches very soon. The stadium was built at a cost of two crore taka.

Anam said that Zimbabwe A will play two matches in Khulna by the end of next month. Sri Lanka Under-23 team is also likely to visit here next November.
