people, especially Bangali women dressed in Bashonti (yellow) saree
greet Basanta (spring), the season of love, on pahela phalgoon
at Charukala Bakultala at Dhaka University during the Basanta Utshab,
a traditional festival of the Bangalis. The Basanta Festival Celebration
Committee has been arranging the festival for the last 10 years
to sensitise the urbanites about importance of the Basanta Utshab,
one of the few remaining rituals of the Bangalis to be celebrated
at the national level, in the wake of intrusion of foreign cultures
like Valentine's Day since 1992.
