Western Union Senior Division Football League
Abahani cry for justice

Abahani Krira Chakra yesterday demanded pro-per action against referee Taiyeb Hasan and the police attack on its officials and players during their troubled-torn Western Union Premier Football League match against Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra.

The popular Dhanmondi outfit also threatened to boycott the league if the Dhaka Mahanagari Football League Committee (DMFLC) failed to ensure impartial refereeing and stop police aggression.

Speaking at a press briefing at the club tent two days after Monday's mayhem at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Abahani's football secretary Ashrafuddin Ahmed Chunnu said that his team was robbed off a crucial victory due to biased refereeing from Taiyeb.

He also condemned the police attack on chief football co-ordinator Dewan Shafiul Arefin Tutul and manager Momen Munna.

"The police not only mercilessly beat up Tutul but also verbally abused Munna. We are feeling insecured because of frequent police actions. It was not long ago when police raided our club that did never happen in our history," said Chunnu.

Munna said that Taiyeb was planted to deny his team a deserving victory.

"Let alone the disallowed goal, we were deprived of a genuine penalty after Nikolai was brought down inside the box during the last five minutes," said a fuming former national captain.

Munna also claimed that Abahani was facing non-cooperation since the start of the season and it was deliberately designed to deny Abahani the Premier League title.

"You see, first they denied visas to our foreign recruits and then the police raid over Aminul issue. Now the referee is denying our goals and penalties," said Munna.
