AL leader shot dead in Khulna

An Awami League (AL) leader and Union Parishad chairman was gunned down by unidentified assailants near his home in Terokhada upazila yesterday afternoon.Police said Chan Mia Sikder, 45, chairman of Sachidaha Union Parishad and organising secretary of AL's Terokhada upazila unit, came under attack at Boyar crossing in Charpatla area at about 3:45pm while he was returning home from a bazaar by a rickshaw. Locals said a gang of three shot Sikder point-blank in the chest and head and fled the spot riding a motorbike. He died instantly Police recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy.
