Probe clears JCD men

The committee to probe the assault on teachers by the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) men at Shaheed Salam Barkat (SSB) Hall on August 10, last year submitted its report Tuesday without any recommendation. Provost of SSB Hall AKM Shahnawaz rejected the report, describing it as an eyewash. The five-member committee headed by Treasurer ABM Enayet Hossain submitted the report to Vice-chancellor Prof Jasim Uddin Ahmed. The report pointed out what should be the students' behaviour rather than accusing the JCD activists of the incident, sources said. A committee member preferring anonymity said, "No-one came forward with any evidence against the JCD. That is why we made no recommendation." The JCD activists assaulted and kept confined the provost and eight house tutors of the SSB Hall to the hall office for five hours.
