The government is to beef up security for president, prime minister, ministers and visiting state leaders. The ministers for local government and rural development (LGRD) and home affairs held a meeting with chiefs of intelligence agencies yesterday to work out ways to bolster security measures for the state's bigwigs. Coming out of the meeting at the Secretariat, LGRD Minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan said the government has taken initiatives to soup up security for the VIPs and VVIPs. He however declined to say what led the government to improve the security arrangements. Sources said the two ministers discussed a new security strategy drawn up by police and discussed at different meetings between the police and Special Security Force (SSF). The protection formula was not however finalised as the meeting felt it needs further improvement. Representatives from the President's Guard Regiment, the SSF, Directorate General of Forces Intelligence, Criminal Investigation Department, Special Branch and Detective Branch were present among others.
