Ispahani Mirzapore Tea 5th National Cricket League
Ctg, Khulna stunned


The lightweights of the Ispahani Mirazapore Tea Fifth National Cricket League Barisal and Rajshahi finally registered victories yesterday when they defeated Chittagong and holders Khulna respectively on the final day. The four-dayer between hosts Dhaka and Sylhet, however, ended in a draw.

Barisal and Rajshahi shared third spot with 12 points each.

A century by Sylhet captain Parvez Ahmed denied Dhaka a win. However, the capital team still bagged four points by virtue of taking a first innings. They dominate the table with 24 points. Sylhet trail the leaders by six points.

On the other hand the defeats placed defending champions Khulna and Chittagong at the bottom with 10 points each.

CHITTAGONG V BARISAL

Proshanta Bose and Towhid Hossain hit fighting half-centuries as Barisal recorded an exciting three-wicket victory over hosts Chittagong at the Comilla Stadium.

Starting the day with 21-1 they soon plunged to 67-4 chasing 198. But Bose hammered 72 off 154 balls that featured nine fours and a six while Hossain contributed 51 off 139 to rescue the side.

The pair shared 95 runs for the fifth wicket as the visitors somehow reached 199-7 in 85.2 overs.

First innings centurion Sabbir Khan kept Chittagong in the hunt as the off-spinner picked up four for 80 to finish with 8-162. He was later named man-of-the-match award along with Towhid Hossain.

KHULNA V RAJSHAHI

Spinner Saifullah Khan spun Rajshahi to a six-wicket victory over Khulna at the Shamsul Huda Stadium in Jessore.

Saifullah grabbed six wickets for 73 runs as Khulna, who began their second innings on 97-5, were dismissed out for 146 leaving their opponents needing just 70 runs to win.

Rajshahi lost four wickets before they achieved the target in 25.3 overs with one down Murad Khan making 38.

Spinner Abdur Razzak Raj captured three for 28 in 9.3 overs and later was adjudged man-of-the-match. He scored 83 in their first innings and captured six wickets for 70 runs.

DHAKA V SYLHET

Sylhet skipper Parvez, unbeaten on 63 overnight, reached 106 in match dominated by batsmen.

The right-hander slammed 14 boundaries in his 250-ball knock as Sylhet piled up the runs after they resumed on 145-6 and eventually scored 324. It gave them a lead of 245.

Time was not Dhaka's side and they finished on 40-2 in 7.3 overs.

National discard Sanwar Hossain with 117 was adjudged man-of-the-match.
