Ispahani Mirzapore Tea 5th National Cricket League
Sanwar slams Sylhet


An unbeaten century by national discard Sanwar Hossain helped Dhaka to take a first innings lead against Sylhet on the second day of their Ispahani Mirzapore Tea Fifth National Cricket League match yesterday.

Chittagong lower-order batsman Sabbir Khan converted his overnight 92 into a maiden first-class hundred and spinner Ahsanullah claimed four wickets as the port city team took command against lowly Barisal who were 186-7 in reply to the home side's first innings total of 300 at the Comilla Stadium.

Away at Jessore, Nuruzzaman and Anisur Rahman combined in an unbroken fourth wicket stand of 119 runs as Rajshahi reached 179 for three in reply to Khulna's 220.

DHAKA V SYLHET

Sylhet pacer Rezaul Haq bagged five wickets but Sanwar Hossain and Jahangir Alam steadied Dhaka's innings adding 142 runs for the fifth wicket that enabled the league leaders to gain a slender seven-run lead at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium.

Dhaka scored 254 for six in reply to Khulna's 247.

The out-of-favour Sanwar, who had scored only 176 runs in his last eight innings with a fifty, was 104 not out with Neeyamur Rashid batting on nine at the close.

Sanwar belted twelve boundaries during his nearly five-hour stay in the middle while former national opener Jahangir Alam contributed 57 off 182 balls that featured eight fours. Opener Al-Shahriar was the another notable scorer with 44 off 62 deliveries.

Sylhet pace bowler Rezaul Haq captured five for 37.

CHITTAGONG V BARISAL

Chittagong's last three batsmen came up trumps to push their side's overnight 232-8 to an impressive score of 300.

Sabbir, Yasin Arafat and Debrabata Paul all contributed towards making the vital 68 runs.

Sabbir completed his first century from 205 balls that included nine boundaries while his overnight partner Yasin remained not out on 30 off 36 balls. Last batsman Paul added 24 off 19 balls.

In reply, opener Jamal Faisal hit a half-century as Barisal scored 186-7 in 82 overs.

Spinner Ahsanullah designed the visitors' collapse taking four wickets for 49 runs while Sabbir captured two for 65.

KHULNA V RAJSHAHI

Number eight batsman Abdur Razzak Raj hammered 83 as holders Khulna scored 220 after starting the day on 164 for eight at the Shamsul Huda Stadium in Jessore.

Raj struck four sixes and five fours in his 113-ball innings.

In reply, Rajshahi scored 179 for three.

Nuruzzaman ended unbeaten on 56 off 146 balls while his partner Anisur made 55 off 128 balls hitting four boundaries and two over-boundaries.

Spinner Raj took two wickets conceding 30 runs.
