Hosts Sylhet claimed their second successive win in the Ispahani Mirzapore Tea Fifth National Cricket League to take over top spot after crushing Barisal by nine wickets yesterday. Rajshahi gained four points by virtue of taking a first innings lead when their fourth round match against Chittagong ended as a draw at the Cricket Garden in Rangpur. Holders Khulna fought back strongly against Dhaka with a day to go in the four-day affair at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium but the capital outfit look set to earn a facile victory to dislodge the overnight leaders. SYLHET V BARISAL Away at the Sylhet Stadium, Barisal managed to avoid an innings defeat when they scored 275 in their second innings but it left the home team requiring a mere 51 runs to win, which they did in 10.1 overs. They lost only the wicket of Golam Mabud, who scored 21 off 24 balls. The second outright win in the longer-version competition increased Sylhet's tally to 16 points, two more than Dhaka, who will need a further 117 runs with seven wickets in hand on the final day against Khulna. DHAKA V KHULNA Khulna, forced to follow on after being dismissed for just 67 in reply Dhaka's first innings 224, made a spirited response in their second essay. Middle-order batsman Tamim Bashir cracked 76 to off 162 balls with ten fours as the visitors scored 311 after resuming on 150-4. By the close Dhaka chasing 155 runs, lost three wickets for 38 runs in 14 overs. Young Khulna left-arm pacer Syed Russell has had a fantastic match so far with a 10-wicket haul under his belt. The 19-year-seamer grabbed seven for 55 in the first innings. RAJSHAHI V CHITTAGONG Chittagong aided by 93 from Anisul Hakim and skipper Akram Khan with 73 declared their second innings on 218-8 replying to their opponents' paltry 175. It gave them a lead of 147. Hakim powered the port city team with eight boundaries after they began the day on 26 for three. Set to score 148 in 37 overs, Rajshahi reached 85 for three at stumps on the final day.
