Liakat Ali Lucky:
A dynamic threatre personality of our time

In theatre along with the artistes, the involvement of directors, playwrights, designers, backstage workers and theatre activists are all important for its smooth functioning. The common people in our country seldom know about these people who are working hard to patronize theatre by their dynamic leadership. More than an artiste, Liakat Ali Lucky is one such theatre leader.

Many things depend on a leader to give an organization the perfect direction. If the organization is not led well, it cannot run properly. Liakat Ali Lucky is one of those mentors who have given Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation (BGTF) proper leadership during the time of hardship to enable the theatrical group to practice regularly.. It is for the third time that he has been elected as the general secretary of BGTF. He has been contributing not only at the local but also at international level. He is the vice president of the Asian Regional Committee of International Amateur Theatre Association (IATA) as well as the president of the Bangladesh branch of IATA.

Besides being an organizer, he is an actor, director, playwright, singer, music composer ,and above all, he is a favourite personality for all the theatre workers. He is always in a jovial mood: that is why his company is so enjoyable.

Liakat had a long cherished desire to be a theatre worker. When he was a student of the Department of English, DU, he started his cultural activities at a full swing in every sector, as asinger, actor, playwright, director and an organizer. He was the cultural secretary of DUCSU. Later, he with some of his friends established a theatrical group named Loko Natya Dal.

To create a cultural atmosphere in the country he is working with children.. He is the president of People's Theatre Association, an association of theatres where all are child performers. This association is arranging workshops and festivals regularly all over the country.

Liakat Ali Lucky is totally dedicated to our cultural heritage. At the same time he thinks that a cultural activist should be well aware about the global flow. That is why he thinks that exchange of views is very important for the progress of culture. He has participated in many international workshops held in Paris and London under world famous drama personalities like Peter Brook. He has performed with his group in various countries like England, Germany, Japan, South Korea etc. and has taken part in many international theatre related seminars and symposiums held in U.S.A., Canada, Sweden and Germany. Moreover, he was the team leader on numerous occasions to represent Bangladesh in many countries.

Due to his ability of deal;ing with humour, the television play directors like Mamunur Rashid and Abdullah Al Mamun cast him in different types of typical characters. His favourite drama personalities are Mamunur Rashid, Abdullah Al Mamun and Mannan Hira. He has performed in 56 plays, has directed 50 plays and has written 8 plays. Of them, Konjus, a play directed by him ,is the most popular one, which has passed 100-show mark a few years ago.
