New department, institute at CU

Chittagong University (CU) will introduce a new department and an institute under its social science faculty from the academic session of 2003-04.Campus sources said the government has already approved honours course in international relations (IR) and an institute titled Institute of Social Science Research.Ê The CU syndicate at its next meeting is likely to appoint the chairman of the proposed department and complete the formalities to start the institute from the current session. Vice-Chancellor Prof. AJM Nuruddin Chowdhury said that as syllabus is yet to be prepared, students might not be enrolled in the IR department from this session. "After the appointment of the chairman, a committee will be formed to prepare the syllabus," he added. The institute will facilitate research work of the students and teachers. With the IR, the number of departments in CU will be 34.
