DU authorities have announced the election schedule on Saturday. DU Treasurer Prof. Syed Rashidul Hasan will conduct the election to be held at the Teacher and Student centre (TSC), from 9:00am to 1:00pm without any break.

The last date for submission of nomination papers is December 18.

Candidates of the ruling BNP- and Jamaat-e-Islami-backed teachers' known as 'White Panel' and opposition Awami League-backed 'Blue Panel' have already finalised its candidates for the election.

Left-leaning 'Pink Panel' has not yet finalised its candidates. Sources said the panel might not field candidates for all seven posts.

White panel candidates are as follows: Arts faculty -- Prof. Sadrul Amin of English department; Science -- Prof. Tazmery S Islam of chemistry department; Law -- Dr. Nayeema Haque; Social Science -- Prof. Abu Ahmed of economics department; Biological Science -- Prof. Saiyad Shalehin Kadri of biochemistry department; Business -- Prof. Sirazul Islam of Management Studies department, and Pharmacy -- Prof. Abdur Rashid.

The Blue panel candidates are: Prof. Shrif Ullah Bhuiyan of History department for arts faculty; Prof. RIM Aminur Rashid of physics department for science faculty; Prof. Mizanur Rahman for Law; Prof. Harunur Rashid of political science department for social science faculty; Prof. Shaheed Akther Hossain of Soil; water and environment department for the biological science faculty; Prof. Mizanur Rahman of Marketing department for business faculty and Prof. ABM Farook for the pharmacy faculty.
