10 killed, 45 hurt in Ctg accidents

Ten people were killed and 45 others injured in two separate road accidents at Sitakunda and Fatikchhari in the district yesterday.Police and witnesses said a Chittagong-bound luxury couch from Dhaka collided head-on with a local passenger bus heading for Baroiadhala of Mirer Sarai on Dhaka-Chittagong road at Baro Darogarhat under Sitakunda Police Station at around 1:30pm. Four people including drivers of both buses were killed on the spot while two others died on way to hospital. At least 20 others were injured, seven critically, in the accident. Three of the dead were identified as bus drivers Mostafa and Momin, and passenger Wahidur Rahman. The injured were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital and Sitakunda Health Complex. Condition of seven of the injured -- Acharna Barua, Suja Uddin, Nasir Uddin, Faruq, Shaheed, Sultan and Bhupal -- was stated to be critical. The other accident occurred earlier at 10:30am at Fatikchhari when a bus fell into a roadside ditch at Andharmanik under Fatikchhari Police Station leaving four people dead and 25 others injured. Sources and witnesses said the Feni-bound bus from Ramgati of Khagrachhari veered off into the ditch while climbing up a winding hilly road after its engine failed. Two of the dead were identified as Nurunnabi, 12, and Nazir Ali, 50. All the injured were admitted to Feni Medical College Hospital. Two separate general diaries were filed in connection with the accidents.
