B Chy won't comment on Bhuiyan's remarks

Former president AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury did not make any comment last night on the remarks of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan about him.

The Daily Star tried to contact the former president, but he was not available.

But his private secretary Zafar Iqbal Siddiqui said Bhuiyan's comment that the former president's 'remarks against the BNP rule were nothing but a manifestation of heartburn for losing power' was ridiculous.

"The president of Bangladesh does not have any power, so the question of B Chowdhury losing power does not arise," he said.

On the allegation that B Chowdhury lobbied the BNP for the nomination of his son Mahi B Chowdhury from the seat vacated by him before taking presidency, Siddiqui said Bhuiyan went to the house of the former president with another man to ask BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for Mahi's selection.

But Chowdhury declined to request the BNP chief.
