A special team of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) unearthed three unauthorised drinking water factories in the city's Mirpur and Kafrul areas in a surprised raid yesterday. The factories are Eurotech Purified Drinking Water Plant, Bismillah Beverage and Distribution Co, and Kuasha Pure Drinking Water Co. The team also sealed the Eurotech plant in absence of its owner. It seized a large number of packets of drinking water ready for marketing during the raid on two other factories. The two factories have been marketing Bari brand drinking water and Kuasha brand drinking water using fake BSTI sign and without licence. Cases were also filed against KM Ariful kabir, owner of Bismillah Co., and Md Sayed Ahmed Noman, owner of Kuasha Co, for violating BSTI ordinance. The BSTI team directed the three factories not to produce or market drinking water. Retailers are also asked not to sell the unauthorised products.
