Bangladesh Sangeet Parishad observes his death anniversary

Samar Das, one of the most celebrated music directors of our country composed countless number of inspiring and spirited songs of our Liberation War. Examples of such songs are Purbo Digontey Shurjo Uthechhey, Bhebona Go Ma Tomar Chhelera, Nongor Tolo Tolo and others. The second death anniversary of this noted personality was observed on September 25 with due solemnity. To mark this day a discussion and cultural programme titled 'The Legendary Music Director of The World of Music Samar Das and His Songs' was organised by Bangladesh Sangeet Parishad at the Shilpakala Academy on October 14.Samar Das was directly involved with the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra during our Liberation War. He did the orchestration of our National Anthem. Samar Das was the music director of the first ever film in our country--Mukh O Mukhosh. The songs like Kato Je Dhirey Bahey Meghna sung by Hemanto Mukharjee, Tandrahara Nayon Amar by Hasina Mumtaz, Lajuk Lajuk Chok Meley Oi by Ferdousi Rahman, Kankon Kar Bajey Rumjhum by Bashir Ahmed are the most popular and classic songs composed by Samar Das. Jewel Tushar Biswas dedicated the opening song to the eminent composer, written and tuned by, Albert Chhoton Das, son of Samar Das. The singers of Bangladesh Sangeet Parishad performed the celebrated song Purbo Digontey Shurjo Uthechhey with passion, just as they had performed during the crisis period of our Liberation War. Noted singers of our country Shubir Nandi, Rathindranath Roy, Rehana Ashiqur Rahman, Hasina Mumtaz, Khurshid Alam, Apel Mahmud and others sang many of the Samar Das' songs and paid rich tribute to the maestro. Earlier, chief guest Dr. Mohammad Maniruzzaman, lyricist of many songs tuned by Samar Das, reputed singers Apel Mahmud, Shubol Das, Kazi Rozi, Shafat Khaiyam, Shahidullah Farayzi, Sheikh Sadi Khan, Ferdous Ara, and Deepika Das, wife of Samar Das spoke at the discussion session.
