Indo-US joint naval exercise begins today

Over 750 US naval personnel and an equal number of Indian Navy personnel would participate in the fifth Indo-US joint exercises, 'Malabar 2003', commencing on Monday off Kochi.

Addressing a joint press meet in Kochi on Sunday, Captain Edward M Boorda of 'USS Chosin', a US frontline warship, which is participating in the exercise, said the joint exercise between the two navies would help enhance and promote regional cooperation.

Working together provides great opportunity for both the navies, he said.

From the US side, besides USS Chosin, 'USS Fizgerald', another frontline warship, Los Angeles class Nuclear Submarine USS Pasadena, P3C Orion Maritime patrol aircraft and a product Tanker would take part in the exercise, he said.
