Charges framed against four in Sultana Panni murder case


The Court of Metropolitan Sessions Judge, Dhaka, yesterday framed charges against four accused in the Sultana Khan Panni murder case.

The accused are the cook of the victim's house, Alauddin Munshi, caretaker Mehedi Mamun Rana and their friends, Nasir Uddin and Emdadul Haq. Judge Motiur Rahman fixed October 4 for trial of the case.

Sultana Khan Panni, 70, wife of former deputy speaker Humayun Khan Panni, was strangled at her Dhanmondi residence on May 19.

The victim's daughter, Sonia Khan Panni, filed a murder case with Dhanmondi Police Station the same day.

The Detective Branch (DB) of Police pressed charges against the four on July 16, showing 26 people as prosecution witnesses.

Earlier, the accused had made confessional statements before metropolitan magistrates on different dates.
