Attack on Jubo League confce in Keraniganj: 15 injured

Activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Jubo Dal yesterday attacked the annual conference of Ruhitpur Union Jubo League at Sonakanda under Keraniganj Upazila injuring around 15 Jubo League workers seriously. A group of 40 to 50 JCD and Jubo Dal activists attacked the conference venue at Ruhitpur Board Bazar when Joint Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Central Sub-Committee Nasrul Hamid Bipu was speaking as chief guest. Of the injured, condition of Md Aman, Jubo League president of ward no 9 of Shakta Union, and Md Salahuddin, a candidate for the post of Ruhitpur Union Jubo League general secretary, is stated to be critical. The attackers set fire to banners containing photographs of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina and damaged the gate of conference venue. Convenor of Keraniganj Thana Awami League and Joint Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Central Sub-Committee Nasrul Hamid Bipu condemned the attack. In a statement, he demanded proper inquiry into the incident and punishment to those responsible for the attack. Duty Officer of Keraniganj thana S I Abdul Huq said no verbal or written complaint was filed in this regard till last night.
