Punishment to killers of AL leaders demanded

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) yesterday demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment to the killers of Awami League (AL) leaders Monzurul Imam and Sharif Mozammel Haque.Addressing a rally in front of the Central Public Library, the BCL leaders also condemned the killing of AL leaders across the country. They threatened to go for all out movement against the government if it does not arrest and punish the killers soon. The BCL leaders said the government is following a policy of eliminating the rivals when AL and BCL are going to gear up movements against the misrule of BNP-Jamaat-led coalition government. They said the alliance government has no right to stay in power as it has failed to improve the law and order situation across the country. The BCL leaders urged the students' community as well as the general people to build up strong movement to oust the government. Presided over by BCL President Liakat Sikder, the rally was addressed by BCL General Secretary Nazrul Islam Babu, Marufa Akhter Popy, Balaram Poddar, Zakir Hossain Maruf, Delwar Hossain and Hemayet Uddin Khan Himu. Earlier, the BCL brought out a procession in support of the hartal enforced by the AL. The police intercepted the procession in front of the public library. Meanwhile, the academic activities of Dhaka University were disrupted yesterday. The administrative building and central library, however, remained open during the hartal. The DU authorities earlier postponed all classes and examinations scheduled for yesterday. Additional police were deployed on the campus to avoid any untoward incidents.
