Judgement on killing of 4 Dhaka Zoo tigers Sept 10

The Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court, Dhaka, yesterday fixed September 10 for judgement on the killing of four tigers at the Dhaka Zoo in November, 1996.Judge Habibur Rahman fixed the date on completion of arguments by the prosecution and the defence. Earlier, the court had recorded statements of nine out of 14 prosecution witnesses. Four Royal Bengal Tigers were poisoned to death by some guards and employees of the zoo on November 9, 1996. Ashraf Ali, an official at the zoo, filed a case accusing 14 guards and employees of the killing with Mirpur Police Station on November 24, 1996. The investigation officer of the case pressed charges against the 14 on January 21, 1998. The court framed charges against them on July 26, 1998 and began its trial on January 26, 2000. Of them, 12 are now on bail and two have been absconding since the incident.
