Body of five-year-old Tonni, who died on Monday while 'being disciplined' by her parents at Pallabi, was handed over to Anjuman-e-Mofidul Islam for burial yesterday. After completion of her autopsy at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), the hospital authorities handed her body over to Anjuman-e-Mofidul Islam yesterday afternoon as her parents are in jail now. The family has no relative in Dhaka. During the autopsy, Doctor Mizanur Rahman found fresh and old burn injuries and bruises on her body, which suggest that she had been tortured for long. Though parents, Mahmudul Haq Milan and Asma Begum, had earlier confessed to police that the girl died while they were 'disciplining' her, they declined to make such confessional statement before a metropolitan magistrate yesterday. When investigation officer Sub-inspector Abdur Rahman took Tonni's parents to Magistrate Jagannath Das Khokon's chamber to record their confessional statement yesterday noon, they said they were not involved in any kind of torture that might have led to her death. Mirpur police recovered Tonni's body while her parents were burying her in a field near Porabari Basti in Kalyanpur on Monday and found marks of burn injuries on her legs and bruises in other parts of the body.
