'No SMA member involved in crime'

Sramajibi Mukti Andolon (SMA), a political party based in the southwestern region, yesterday criticised some newspapers for labelling it as extremist.

At a press conference at the National Press Club, the SMA leaders said no members of the party were involved in any kind of criminal activities.

If any member is found involved in crimes, he would be handed over to law-enforcing agencies as the party believes in fair politics, the leaders said.

They also urged the government to rehabilitate the armed members of outlawed party who had surrendered during the rule of the previous government.

These armed cadres are returning to their old trade as the government did not rehabilitate them, the leaders added.

The press conference was addressed by Dr Israel, Abdul Latif Lavlu and M Arzu.
