2 robbers killed in Noakhali ‘gunfight’ with Rab
Two robbers were killed in an alleged 'gunfight' with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Companyganj in Noakhali early today.
The deceased were identified as Jabed, 28, son of Bechu Mia of Char Elahi union and his bodyguard Sumon, 31, son of Shahjahan Mia of Sandip in Chittagong.
A group of robbers was gathering inside the Urir Char forest in Noakhali, reports our correspondent quoting Maj Md Shahed Hasan, deputy director of Rab-11.
On information, the Rab team led by Maj Shahed conducted search in and around the forest and cordoned the robbers.
Sensing presence of the Rab members, the robbers started opened fire promoting the elite force to fire back around 4:30am.
At one stage, two robbers died on the spot, Maj Shahed said.
A good number of arms were recovered from their possession, our correspondent added.
Shahed Hasan claimed that Jabed was a second-in-command of Shahadat Hossain Jasu group who killed in another gunfight with the elite forces on April 3 in the area.
The deceased were accused in several criminal offences including killing, abduction and others, the Rab official claimed.
