2 ‘robbers’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with Rab
Three days into a ‘shootout’ that killed 13 robbers in Khulna, two bandits were killed in an alleged gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion at Chandpai Range of the east Sundarbans in Mongla upazila of Bagerhat this morning.
Deceased Raju and Zakir, aged between 25 and 30, were the members of a robbery gang, locally known as Awal Bahini, reports our Bagerhat correspondent.
On receiving information that a gang of robbers gathered in Mrigomari canal, the elite force members conducted a raid there around 8:45am today.
Sensing presence of the Rab men, the robbers opened fire targeting the elite force members, prompting them to retaliate with bullets that triggered a gunfight, said Major Adnan Kabir, deputy commander of Rab-8.
After the robbers managed to flee the scene, the elite force found two bullet-hit bodies lying on the ground, he added.
Later, local fishermen identified the victims as members of Awal Bahini.
The Rab members recovered seven firearms, 150 bullets, a boat and several sharp weapons from the scene after the gunfight in Mrigomari canal.
The bodies and seized firearms and weapons will be handed over to the police of Mongla Police Station, Kabir said.
