2 robbers killed in Cox's Bazar ‘shootout’
Two robbers were killed in a "shootout" with police in Ramu upazila of Cox's Bazar early today.
Three policemen also sustained minor injuries during the “gunfight” and received primary treatment from Ramu Upazila Health Complex, reports our Cox’s Bazar correspondent.
The law enforcers arrested one of the robbers from Turuingakatha village where the incident occurred around 2:30am, said Saiful Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Ramu Police Station.
Police identified the deceased as Anowar Hossain, 32, and Khalil Ahmed, 28, of Khuliapar area in Ramu upazila.
On receiving information that a gang of robbers were preparing to commit a robbery at Turuingapara, a police patrol team conducted a raid at the village, said OC Saiful.
As the team arrived there, robbers opened fire on the law enforcers forcing them to retaliate by firing, triggering a gunfight.
Anowar and Khalil came in the line of fire and were hit by bullets, the police official added.
Police took the duo to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital around 7:00am where doctors declared them dead.
Police recovered two firearms and six cartridges from the spot.
The injured policemen are sub-inspector Jalal Ahmed and constables Alo Bikash and Mojibor.
