2 killed as bus rams three-wheeler at Shahbagh
Two women of a family were killed and two others injured when a bus rammed into a CNG-driven auto-rickshaw in Shahbagh area of Dhaka during the Jamaat-enforced countrywide hartal (shutdown) today.
The deceased were identified as Firoza Begum, 50, and her sister-in-law, Chanburu, 35, said Inspector Mozammel Haque, police camp in-charge of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
A speeding bus hit the Mohammadpur-bound three-wheeler in front of Ruposhi Bangla Hotel around 7:00am, said Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Ramna Police Station.
“Firoza, Chanburu, and two others of their family and the auto-rickshaw driver were injured. They were rushed to DMCH where doctors declared Firoza and Chanburu dead.”
Injured Azizul, 28, nephew of deceased Firoza, and his wife, Ankhi, 20, were undergoing treatments at the hospital. The driver attended primary treatments.
The victims reached Sadarghat Launch Terminal from Barisal and were going to the house of Firoza’s sister Shahnaz in Mohammadpur area.
The Supreme Court yesterday commuted the death sentence of war criminal Delwar Hossain Sayedee to jail for life.
Appalled by the SC verdict, the Jamaat called two 24-hour hartals for today and Sunday demanding immediate release of the convict.
