2 held with 9.6kg gold at Dhaka airport
Custom intelligence officials in separate drives detained two passengers with 83 gold bars weighing over 9.6 kilogrammes at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital this morning.
Md Alauddin, 31, and Mohammad Shahjahan, 38, were detained when they were crossing the green channel of the airport, said Mustafizur Rahman, deputy director of customs intelligence
The marker price of the gold bar is about Tk 4.85 crore, Rahman said.
The customs officials found 64 gold bars weighing 7.4kg searching the handbag of Alauddin hailed from Noakhali.
He arrived from Doha in Qatar by a flight of Qatar Airways at 5:00am, the customs official said.
In another drive, the officials detained Shahjahan of Chittagong along with 2.23kg gold after he landed at the airport at 7:30am by a flight of FlyDubai from Dubai of the United Arab Emirates.
