2 held with 7kg gold at Dhaka airport
Customs officials, in separate drives, detained two Bangladeshis with 20 gold bars weighing around 7.7 kilogrammes at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital this morning.
The officials detained Shahnur Alam and Monjurul Haque, who came from Malaysia and Dubai, when they were passing the green channel around 6:30am and 10:30am respectively, said officials of the airport customs.
Acting on a tip-off, the customs officials searched Shahnur and found six gold bars weighing 6kgs from inside his socks, said Shampriti Pramanik, assistant commissioner of the airport customs.
Shahnur reached Dhaka from Malaysian capital Kuala Lampur by a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight that landed airport around 5:30am.
Meanwhile, the customs intelligence detained Monjurul with 14 gold bars weighing 1.7kg after he returned from Dubai by an Emirates Airways flight that landed around 9:30am, said Mostafizur Rahman, deputy commissioner of the customs intelligence.
The market price of the 20 gold bars is Tk 3.40 crore, he added.
